For the past two years, my husband and I have been Toronto Blue Jays Flex Pack subscribers. As such, I got the following email today:
According to the National Post, citing MLB, the Blue Jays chances of actually making the playoffs are a measly 2.2%.
At least one of us has hope.
Yes, as much as I love the Jays, I don’t think this is going to be their year. However, after a quick chuckle at this email (as well as the fact that I can buy tickets for the World Series today), I also realized something.
This is probably the first time in 20 years Jays season ticket holders/Flex Pack subscribers have gotten an email in September announcing they can put $25 down now for their playoff tickets.
Twenty freaking years.
I went from laughing to thinking how much this email might have meant to those fans who have spent years supporting a losing team. One that went from back-to-back World Series champions to the laughing stock of the American League East.
I wish things had turned out better this year for the Jays. I wish that instead of a crappy August, they had won some games, really given Baltimore a run for their money when they had the chance, and made up some ground.
But I also recognize the Jays had some pretty big injuries to deal with that month, and the fact that they’re still mathematically in the race is pretty amazing, considering.
While the Blue Jays might just have a 2.2% chance of making it beyond Sept. 28, we’re happy to put down a deposit for tickets for the first round and the last round of the playoffs. (And yes, that would be the World Series, thank you very much.)
So thank you, Toronto Blue Jays. Not only did you give your fans something to cheer about when you were Number 1 in the AL East back in May, you’ve also put a smile on a lot of faces thanks to the email we got today.
Go Jays Go!
